Our High Commission in Canberra have received a letter from a Mr. Alan Fancey of Sydney, New South Wales enquiring about a claim for loss of personal property in Hong Kong.
Mr. Fancey served with the Hong Kong Naval Dockyard Volunteer Defence Corps from the outbreak of the Japanese war and he was taken prisoner by the Japanese after the surrender of Hong Kong. Following the conclusion of hostilities, Mr. Fancey states that he was repatriated to the United Kingdom and granted a few weeks convalescent leave. Subsequently, in 1947, Mr. Fancey settled in Australia.
At some time prior to 1946, Mr. Fancey filed a claim for losses suffered in Hong Kong and he received a £15 advance on his claim for £376 until such time as his case could be brought before a committee for a final decision. This advance was paid in 1946 and Mr. Fancey has heard nothing further about the balance of his claim.
We should be grateful if you would advise us on the reply which we should ask our authorities in Australia to return to Mr. Fancey's letter.
I am writing similarly to Slade (Board of Trade).
Yours sincerely,
OHHenson
MISS H. BOCOCK,
